Securing Alberta Environmental Approvals: Our Regulatory Journey

An inside look at our ongoing work with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) and federal authorities to meet Canadian regulatory requirements for waste treatment technology.

Bringing innovative waste treatment technology to a new market requires more than great products—it requires rigorous regulatory compliance. At Magnetik Solutions, we are committed to meeting and exceeding all applicable Canadian standards as we introduce our systems to Alberta and beyond.

The Canadian Regulatory Landscape

Waste treatment in Canada is governed by a complex framework of federal and provincial regulations. Our technology must comply with standards set by multiple authorities, each with specific requirements for environmental protection, public health, and operational safety.

At the provincial level, we are working closely with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) for environmental approvals and the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) for oil and gas applications.

Our Approach to Compliance

We believe in proactive engagement with regulators. Rather than waiting for questions, we are actively sharing information about our technology, providing detailed documentation, and offering facility tours for regulatory officials.

  • Comprehensive documentation of all treatment processes and emission profiles
  • Third-party verification of performance claims and safety standards
  • Regular meetings with regulatory staff to address questions and concerns
  • Transparent reporting of all testing results and operational data
  • Participation in industry working groups and standards development

Federal Requirements

At the federal level, our systems must comply with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) standards, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), and Health Canada requirements for medical device approvals where applicable.

We are also working with Transport Canada on standards for our mobile treatment systems, which will serve remote locations across Western Canada.

Timeline and Next Steps

Regulatory approval is a marathon, not a sprint. We are committed to taking the time necessary to ensure full compliance and build trust with Canadian regulators.

Our team continues to work through the approval process for each product line, with initial focus on systems for healthcare and industrial applications. We will provide updates as we achieve key milestones in our regulatory journey.
